Personal note about Justin & Cathy:

Justin:

I have always been into designing and drafting my whole life. At a very young age my father handed me his drafting tools that he used when he was in high school. I think that is what sparked my interest in doing design and drafting. I have always enjoyed drafting a plan and seeing it come together or building it myself. With that I took drafting and metal shop through Jr. High School and drafting, architectural design and set building in theater through High School. I have been doing the designing and drafting for several design and engineering firms ever since I came out of college. In 2007, I started my own company JDDS Enterprises, Inc. and became an independent designer and drafter here in Arizona. While attending networking groups to advertise my business I met my wife, Cathy Smitch. She is a professional photographer and owns her own business also, I Was Framed. We officially started seeing each other a couple years after we first met, and I got to see what her hobbies are and what she enjoyed doing. As a Photographer one of her big interest and hobbies, is scrapbooking. She truly has a passion for photography and capturing memories for herself and her customers as a wedding and family portraits photographer. And instead of just printing the pictures and putting them in a photo album she enjoys creating a story in the form of a scrapbook. So, one day as I was following her around one of the local scrapbook stores I started to look closely at a lot of the design and cutouts that were in the store. I soon figured out that a lot of the items were cut out with a laser engraving machine, so I took an interest and started doing some research on the equipment. In my research I found out that there are several different industries that the laser engraving equipment is used in, and I could start another business to supplement my income when design and drafting work gets slow. So, as you can see with Cathy’s interest in scrapbooking, I started All American Laser Engraving so that we could share a common interest that she really enjoys. Since we first started the company, we have expanded the company and the use of the laser to more than just scrapbooking cutouts. We are also doing custom wedding gifts, cake toppers, invitations, table toppers and keepsakes that compliments Cathy’s Photography business. It is very enjoyable for the both of us because I am still doing a form of drawing and design to use in the laser and Cathy gets to do her scrapbooking and offer her customers something the most other photographers do not.
